I will preach to anyone who asks about the power of dresses.
Throw on one piece of clothing, and you have an instant outfit that makes you look put-together. Less effort. More impact. Work smarter, not harder.
For me, dresses are more than just an easy option. They’ve been the answer to my body insecurities. I have never felt confident in pants. I have thicker thighs and a matching butt, so finding a flattering pant has always been difficult. My hips-to-waist ratio never appears on mainstream size charts. If the pants fit my thighs and hips, the waist is far too large. If the waist fits, my thighs are being strangled.
Dresses are far more forgiving in that area, and as long as they’re not too tight, they compliment my shape instead of punishing it.
Recently, I talked myself into thinking I could find some sleek trousers for fall and winter. The one downside to dresses is the obvious lack of coverage on bare legs in the sometimes-harsh Colorado weather. So, I set out to find the perfect pants. Unfortunately, I was disappointed that the mainstream brands do not accommodate my shape, and I came home empty-handed.
I decided to fall back on the old standby, and I purchased skirts instead of pants to go along with the separates I had purchased. It turns out that pairing skirts with button-up shirts and sweaters gives an elevated look that makes me forget how disappointed I was not to be able to find pants that make me feel confident.
With all of this in mind, I’ve committed to only wearing dresses (or skirts) to work this entire year. Even when I feel like wearing jeans (or even leggings on the tough days), I know that if I pull on a dress or a skirt instead, I’ll feel more powerful and have more pep to do my work with confidence.
