First-Year Friday: Wednesday Lessons

If your law school study breaks include Netflix, I hope that one show in your rotation is Wednesday — a re-imagined look into one of the most interesting female characters that many of us grew up watching.

Sure, Wednesday is a teenager with supernormal powers, but as you find your way in law school, there are a few lessons you can take from this tenacious girl.

Wednesday is the ultimate confidence powerhouse. She knows what she likes, what she doesn’t, and she doesn’t compromise in her beliefs. She also never stands for injustice.

Of course, she’s not blindly sure of herself. She second-guesses herself when her plans fail or she misjudges. But importantly, she doesn’t let those thoughts derail her. If she’s wrong, she finds another avenue and persists until she isn’t.

Wednesday’s style is important, as well. She doesn’t deviate from what makes her feel most powerful— her signature “color” of black.

You’ll find your non-negotiables, just like Wednesday, the points on which you will not compromise. Part of that should be your personal style and another aspect will be your approach to practicing law. The best thing you can do to find your power is to remain firm.
