Preparing for finals during your first year of law school (and particularly your first semester) is one of the most difficult things you’ll do on your journey to becoming an attorney.
During your first year, you’re learning how to learn in law school, as many will tell you. And for your first round of finals, you’re learning how to take law school exams.
While preparing for finals, you’ll probably grab the most comfortable clothes you can find. I was constantly dressed in leggings and a sweatshirt while studying.
At first, I tried wearing the same comfortable clothes on test day — leggings and a comfortable sweatshirt. Although I was comfortable during my test, I remember that I felt sloppy. I also remember that I most women in my class were also wearing leggings, so I heard a few men in our class commenting on how much they loved exam day. Ugh.
When my most important test — the bar exam — rolled around, I decided to try a different approach. Instead of my comfy leggings and sweatshirt, I wore a dress and reasonable heels. I felt more confident, sharper.
So, for your exams, wear an outfit that makes you feel powerful, whatever that means for you. Layers are best, to help you stay at the right temperature.
Stay comfy while you prep for exams. When test day comes, you’ll be ready. A powerful outfit will help you remember that.
