It’s not often an attorney overshadows her client in a high-profile case, especially when her client is a world-renowned actor.
But Camille Vasquez, who represented Johnny Depp at trial in his defamation lawsuit, took center stage, largely because of her sharp questioning tactics. And in part, I think it was her classic, understated style that allowed her skills to shine through.
For obvious reasons, I’ll stick to an analysis of Ms. Vasquez’s style rather than her work as an attorney on this case. I’ll also steer entirely clear of any opinion on the case itself.
Overall, Ms. Vasquez’s style was a perfect picture of professional style. Many of her outfits were monochrome: black, navy, gray, cream, and grey tweed. She wore classic pant suits and elegant skirt suits. She even ditched her blazer for one day of trial, opting instead for a structured peplum top and pencil skirt.

The key to her style success was the understated nature of her clothes. Her suits and shoes were expensive, and her outfits were well-fitting, likely tailored. But they were not flashy. They were classic, with clean lines. She didn’t wear any bright colors, loud patterns, or overstated brand emblems.
Her accessories were also simple. She did not wear gaudy jewelry or carry elaborate handbags. At one point, she wore a simple black and gold bracelet (something I wouldn’t wear simply because of the clinking), but only the trained eye would have known it was a Cartier piece worth nearly $7,000. She wore Valentino and Jimmy Choo shoes, but in simple styles.
Ms. Vasquez left us with one simple lesson: Keep your style simple. Your suits should be well-fitted with clean lines. Wear monochromatic color schemes, and skip flashy colors or patterns.

Like Ms. Vasquez, let your voice, not your outfit, be the loudest in the room.
